Goals

To increase the mobility, self-reliance, and physical health and dexterity of Hartford youth
To identity, instruct, and support youth leadership
To demonstrate how dreams, dedication, and hard work together yield rewards
To create a common identity among young men of different ages, ethnicities, neighborhoods, and physical capacities through the love of the bicycle
To create opportunities for Hartford youth to develop friendships with kids from other places in Connecticut
To enhance the working relationship between Hartford BMX and local law enforcement

Objectives

CBC will deliver the following goods and services in the development of Hartford BMX during 1999 and 2000:

A competitive BMX program for boys in grades 6- 12.
A minimum of four special bike demonstration events to be held in the following locations: Sigourney Square, Riverside, Colt, and Downtown
Hiring and supervision of a seasonal part-time coach
Solicitation of bids and in-kind contributions from local bike retailers and national manufacturers of bikes and related equipment
Equipping each teammate with helmet, knee and shin guards, gloves, and a bicycle, each of which can be "purchased" through the team’s point system
Weekly transportation to races in Bethel, CT for 15 weeks beginning July 1,1999
Twice weekly practices and "free" rides (as long as weather permits,) and weekly team business meetings (yearlong)
Continued solicitation of sponsorships and charitable contributions to perpetuate Hartford BMX
Presentation of at least one session each on the following topics: bike driver rights and responsibilities; basic bike maintenance, nutrition, and careers in biking
Targeted involvement of Fred D. Wish school students and personnel in Hartford BMX and Second Wind Recycle a Bicycle Barn, providing 75 bikes, helmets, and instruction to students
